![]() *AVOIDANT people equate intimacy with a loss of independence and constantly try to minimize closeness. ![]() ![]() *ANXIOUS people are often preoccupied with their relationships and tend to worry about their partner’s ability to love them back. According to attachment theory, every person behaves in relationships in one of three distinct ways: In Attached, Levine and Heller trace how these evolutionary influences continue to shape who we are in our relationships today. Also central to attachment theory is the discovery that our need to be in a close relationship with one or more individuals is embedded in our genes. Attachment theory forms the basis for many bestselling books on the parent/child relationship, but there has yet to be an accessible guide to what this fascinating science has to tell us about adult romantic relationships-until now.Īttachment theory owes its inception to British psychologist and psychoanalyst John Bowlby, who in the 1950s examined the tremendous impact that our early relationships with our parents or caregivers has on the people we become. ![]() Heller reveal how an understanding of attachment theory-the most advanced relationship science in existence today-can help us find and sustain love. ![]() In this groundbreaking book, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Amir Levine and psychologist Rachel S. ![]() ![]() More important, Ramadan presents the main events of the Prophet's life in a way that highlights his spiritual and ethical teachings. 'When all is said and done, there are two types of men: those who stay at home and those who do not' Kipling. Grant follows the trails of the first European to wander across the American West (a failed conquistador) joins a group of rodeo-competing cowboys (and gets thrown by a mechanical bull) tells the story of the vanishing nomadic Indians and links up with 300,000 'gerito gypsies' - old people who live and travel in their RVs (Recreational Vehicles). Fascinated by the land of endless horizons, sunshine, and the open road, Richard Grant spent fifteen years wandering throughout the United States, never spending more than three weeks in one place, and getting to know America's nomads-truckers, tramps, rodeo cowboys, tie-dyed T-shirt concert followers, flea market traders, retirees who live year-round in their RVs, and the murderous Freight. 'Freedom is impossible and meaningless within the confines of sedentary society, the only true freedom is the freedom to cross the land, beholden to no one'. ![]() AMERICAN NOMADS is the extraordinary result. ![]() ![]() Motivated partly by his own wanderlust and partly by his realisation that America is a land populated by wanderers, he set out to test his theory. When Rowan Sterling came rolling into Montana on a bus at the beginning of the summer to work on Willow Springs Ranch (Jesse’s family’s ranch), she looked a little…different. He chooses to see the good in everyone and gives them the benefit of the doubt. He sees the good in everybody, all the time, almost to a fault. Not only is he a cowboy, but he has a heart of gold. If you’ve read these books, you probably do too.įirst of all, let’s recap for just a second. I want to squeeze these fictional characters. When I read Near and Far not long ago, I couldn’t believe that I could grow to love Jesse Walker and Rowan Sterling any more than I already did, but somehow my heart was able to make more room for them and I just want to squeeze them. I’ve held true to that, you guys – I’ve already re-read it via audiobook while I followed along with my print copy and I PROMISE YOU that I loved it even more the second time. ![]() My Thoughts: When I read the first book in this series, Lost and Found, back in May of this year, I said in my review that I would read it again and again. ![]() ![]() ![]() This picture book is a perfect small moment narrative! Integration Ideas Personal Narrative: Small Moment It’s simple, but a lot can be taken from it. This would be a fun book in any primary and elementary classroom. I adore how it is just a story of an event, and not a lesson to be learned or even discussed. ![]() While this is clearly a book that bends gender stereotypes, it isn’t brought up as an issue or problem, it just is. In a beautiful, unspoken moment, she helps add to his outfit and takes him to a parade of people dressed up. When he goes home, he dresses up like a mermaid with items found in the house and proudly shows his Grandmother. ![]() Jessica Love tells a story of a little boy who wants to dress up like the mermaids he saw on the bus. The story was handled beautifully – beyond all expectations. Since this is a delicate topic for our culture, I wanted to see how this story would be handled. Definitely the cover and title curiosity on this one. ![]() ![]() ![]() A first-contact narrative, Dawn follows Lilith Iyapo, a Black American woman who wakes up aboard the spaceship of an alien species called the Oankali.
